  28. I bought a Sony SDT-5000 a 4gig uncompressed drive that works well for 
  29. backing up Flyer clips... got it for $825 plus shipping.  Tapes are 
  30. $22-$25 each and hold, yep, 4 gigs uncompressed (120m tapes).  Be aware 
  31. tho that Newtek's code is still a little flaky and real slow... 2.7 gig 
  32. took almost 4 hours to backup.  (And the drive is normally capable of 
  33. 1.2 gig per hour (21 megs to 23 megs per minute which is one of the 
  34. fastest data transfer rates around)
  35.  
  36. A quick fix is to one by one copy files from one drive to another.  
  37. Starting with the longer clips (if they'll fit) for instance if you have 
  38. some five minute clips and the other drive show more than that available 
  39. (BEFORE reorganizing) then copy the clip to the other drive and delete it 
  40. off the first  doing this till you can't anymore should allow you to 
  41. reorganize the first drive, then reverse the flow of copied clips till 
  42. you can reorganize the second one.  The important thing to remember is to 
  43. copy the biggest files you can over, cause the reoganize uses only 
  44. contiguous space. (It won't split a 6 minute clip and place into 4 
  45. minute and 2 minute available slots.
